Our Gathering Together To Him

Colossians 1:18-19. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him….
Colossians 3:16. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.1 Corinthians 14:26,31. What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification….For you can all prophesy one by one , so that all may learn and all may be exhorted;

The Lord Jesus as the Head of His body, the church, is the sole director of its operation and coordination. Thus, every true gathering together of the saints will be orchestrated in heaven. In the mind and will of God there is no such event as a meeting of God’s people that is pre-planned as to order and content.

Within the saints, who are gathered unto Jesus, exist all the riches of divine life and wisdom available to be expressed as the Holy Spirit shall prompt utterance. Every contribution shared, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, will blend together to glorify our Lord and Master and rejoice the heart of our Father in heaven. If all who are assembled were to speak and act perfectly and precisely in accordance with the leading of the Spirit, then their symphony of testimony, exhortation, admonition, revelation, teaching, worship and praise offered would bring such gladness to our Father’s heart as would, for all those present, be an experience never to be forgotten. Perfection of obedience to the leading of the Spirit may not be possible in this earthly sphere, yet if all those gathered will yield to the leading and direction of the Holy Spirit, then their meeting together will be in such contrast to a regulated religious meeting that those who have experienced it may never want to return to restricted conditions again.

How easy it is to look at our own obvious spiritual inadequacies and select someone more experienced to lead us in worship of Almighty God. Yet Jesus is, He has been and He ever will be ready, as Lord, to lead all who love Him, deeper and deeper into the true knowledge of Himself through the willing cooperation of each and every member of His one body and, thereby, to glorify our Father in heaven.

The content and quality of the meeting life will be dependent upon the faithfulness in their daily life of those who gather together. In our daily life we must allow Him to ‘come to have first place in everything’. Then in our meetings together we shall desire that He alone be the focus of every shared word and song. As we ‘let the word of Christ richly dwell within’ us in our daily devotional life we shall ‘with all wisdom’ teach and admonish one another.

There can be no special formula or format for our gathering together to Him, although many have tried to find one. As the Lord Jesus is present among us as the divine Spirit we shall know, on every occasion of our gathering together, how to respond to His leading and bring love and life to each other and glory to Him. Every such meeting can be a sweet foretaste of ‘the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him….’ 2 Thessalonians 2:2.

The importance of learning and experiencing what it really means to gather together to Jesus cannot be overstated. The joy, life and love that is so evident when we do so will be a foretaste of heaven. Such meetings acknowledge and display on earth the divine rule in the face of God’s arch enemy Satan. Upon companies of saints such as these shall the Spirit one day be outpoured in answer to the promise of God to send ‘the latter rain’, which shall gather in the final massive harvest of souls for God.

  1. “If … speak and act … in accordance with the leading of the Spirit, then their symphony of testimony, exhortation, admonition, revelation, teaching, worship, and praise offered would bring such gladness to our Father’s heart …” How beautifully said and how true that we try to settle with the secondhand relationship by putting someone else on the pedestal when all the time the Lord is wooing us to come to Him directly with unsullied love. Thank you, Tom, for always directing us to the One and Only.

    1. Dear sister Miho, your love for the Lord Jesus is a constant inspiration to me. Thank you. With love unto eternity, your bro Tom

    1. It is so good to receive comments like yours. When believers in Jesus communicate together there is a flow of the Holy Spirit that flows between them and which binds each together in His love.

    1. Thank you. You have blessed me with your comments. May the Lord Jesus bless you likewise. Do please comment again as you feel led to do.
